It is also known for being the route of migrants who daily try to cross at the risk of their own lives; this social reality was covered for the three-part special "In the bowels of the Darien" for Teletica Costa Rica by reporter Álvaro José Sánchez Córdoba and his cameraman Erick Mena, who used a LU600 unit to broadcast live and direct the dangers of trying to cross the Darien Gap.
