Dalet drives growth of digital distribution company

dalet

International. Migo uses the Dalet Flex media logistics platform to manage its data delivery and geographic expansion operations. Migo is a disruptive digital distribution service designed for emerging economies and mass markets.

By closing the data gap for billions of consumers, the service brings the best of the internet to the corner store. Currently, Migo offers a variety of premium video content to download via local WiFi hotspots called Migo Download Stations (MDS) for offline viewing on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

The solution is currently offered in the Jakarta metropolitan area, where smartphones are common, but downloading high-volume content or cellular transmission is often not possible due to limited budgets or insufficient broadband infrastructure. The cloud-based Dalet Flex platform, a comprehensive addition to Migo's unique technology, manages complex metadata and video packaging requirements, ensuring delivery meets partner company service licensing agreements and necessary regulations.

"Migo facilitates what would have been an expensive and out-of-reach digital experience for certain mass-market consumer segments, as an affordable product and uses Dalet Flex's optimized content preparation and delivery," said Daniel Money, Migo's director of operations and supply chain. "Dalet Flex is a strategic technology solution that manages our data delivery workflow as we create an entirely new category for content delivery and consumption using a content delivery network (CDN) that is independent of telcos."

An expert in creating new mass distribution models, Migo founder Barrett Comiskey developed the technology behind the Amazon Kindle e-reader, revolutionizing book distribution. Migo's disruptive product is a downloadable "envelope" of mobile content. Consumers can download Migo content over a local public WiFi network at one of 100,000 patented and planned kiosks located in small convenience and general stores throughout Indonesia. Once downloaded, consumers can view them offline anytime, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection. The method is 40 times less expensive than the next best alternative.

"The initial layer of content distribution, production and software developed in-house was a complicated and tiered design solution. There were many upstream and downstream dependencies that were always changing and we initially made the decision to design it in-house. This turned out to be quite difficult to maintain," Daniel said. "We looked again at the industry for robust and flexible content workflow solutions and were impressed with Dalet Flex's value proposition for the quality of the user interface and the variety of use cases. I think what really sealed the deal was the personal aspect : their technical sales team really impressed us."

Dalet Flex's cloud-native architecture provided the immense flexibility Migo needed to adapt to the changes caused by the pandemic, while supporting its ambitious growth plans to scale to 1,000 locations this year. It serves as the foundation connecting Migo's content operations in Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia with comprehensive media logistics capabilities that fully orchestrate content packaging.

With content at a price that rivals a bottle of soda, Migo's dynamic business model benefits from Dalet Flex's precision in content management to mitigate errors and optimize operations at all levels. Hosted on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, the end-to-end workflow simplifies the many upstream and downstream adjustments while providing transparency to the enterprise.
