Zoom Radio selects Barix RetailPlayer for Sonic

zoom radio, barix, Mexico. Zoom Radio, an ambient music service provider serving retailers and other businesses across Mexico, has upgraded its audio-over-IP delivery platform to the next-generation Barix RetailPlayer solution.

The November 2020 update to Zoom Radio adds the new cloud-based RetailPlayer Portal to simplify operations by centralizing configuration, management, status monitoring, and streaming change.

Zoom Radio first installed RetailPlayer in 2019, upgrading from a legacy Barix store distribution and forwarding system. RetailPlayer has made Zoom Radio's transition to a more cost-effective SaaS-based OPEX model while simplifying operations. This includes regionalizing streams for end customers and more efficient management of personalized playlists, including inserting customer-provided messages. That brings exceptional efficiency to a service provider like Zoom Radio, which often offers more than 2000 songs per customer across this expanding country.

RetailPlayer has improved Zoom Radio's ability to create a unique sound brand for each customer, differentiating the service from competitors offering generic music streams. Custom programming and centralized control eliminate distractions from a company's sound environment, such as employees who change music frequently, and the legal issues associated with copyright and permissions. Zoom Radio's current customers in Mexico include BD Laboratories and Mexibus.

"We call it Musical Architecture," said Jorge Ortiz, Commercial Director of Zoom Radio. "We study the brand, destination location and customer behavior from inbound to check-out. That helps us define an architecture and build segments for different times of the day. RetailPlayer helps us create those segmented playlists with ease and add messages that support the brand. This includes morning segments for employees with corporate, HR and motivational messages before moving to commercial segments at the time of opening. We may also switch to alternate transmissions within the Portal at short notice as needed."

While the RetailPlayer Portal strengthens operational and commercial value, Ortiz adds that commercial locations benefit from a more compact technology footprint. "The new players are half the size of our previous players," Ortiz said. "This is especially attractive to our large urban transport customers like Mexibus who have players installed on buses and at stops."

Ortiz adds that RetailPlayer allows it to more easily monetize streams by incorporating ads into the mix, which it currently does with Mexibus. Otherwise, you charge a modest monthly fee for the service that is affordable for your customers thanks to RetailPlayer's SaaS business model. It's also simple and affordable to scale a customer's RetailPlayer network according to Ortiz, for both Zoom Radio and customers.

"We are adding 150 players for a second urban transportation customer and another 47 for a retailer in the near future," Ortiz said. "The process is simple for our customers, who have a plug-and-play box upon arrival. They don't need a lot of technical infrastructure in the store. We take care of the production and delivery, and the Barix players on site reliably handle the playback. Beyond providing us with promotions and messages, they simply focus on their business."
