Telecommunications in Mexico grow at double digits

Juan Sadurní, nae

Mexico. The international consultancy Nae announced the panorama that Mexico will face in the telecommunications sector, with the purpose of contributing to its medium and long-term planning, and in order to support the growth of the industry and the economy.

"We know that any action in telecommunications has a multiplier effect on all economic activities, and we have seen with pleasure that companies in the sector have acted efficiently to reduce the effects of the crisis caused by COVID-19, supporting to accelerate the recovery of the country, even rushing their investments," said Juan Sadurní, general director of Nae in Mexico.

According to the executive, operators have completed their migration to the cloud and therefore the introduction of artificial intelligence, the internet of things and cybersecurity has been improved. "In fact, the industry recovered its initial losses; in June it grew double digits in revenue (+13%) and increased its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product from 2.5 to 3.4%, thanks to mobile devices and convergent services, although on the other hand foreign investment and jobs show negative figures. Likewise, it is observed that the current productive landscape, characterized by the increase in teleworking, has caused a reorganization of the workforce and the implementation of new operating models, but according to Nae, organizations and individuals are not fully prepared to assume the new challenges, so additional training is required, in view of the fact that internal and external operations will be completely digitized with "Zero Touch" models. autonomous networks, self-provisioned and virtualized services.

"In any case, at Nae we have identified opportunities for development and growth in the telecommunications sector, and we link them to four major groups: the customer, the channel, the network and operations, and even when the crisis is associated with the confinement and the economic moment, we believe that a lasting positive effect will be generated in this industry. We will see a definitive take-off of the complete digitalization of telecommunications and society," added the main executive of this company in Mexico.

Everything indicates that the conditions are in place for the creation of new operators and brands, which will abandon existing practices and offer different, less intrusive experiences. New customer needs will have to be met and the deployment of networks will be reinforced, intensifying the use of fiber optics, both in range and capacity (more than 1Gbps), and mobile infrastructures such as 5G (in different bands), in addition to increasing the capacity in 4G.

"We believe that the telecommunications industry will be the engine of development for the rest of the economy. The strength of operators, services and infrastructure in the sector will be matched and inseparable from the strength of the economy as a whole, and we at Nae are ready to continue collaborating with global industry leaders to help them solve their most pressing challenges."
