Mexico. Given the contingency due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Plenary of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, agreed to extend the suspension of face-to-face activities, to May 30, 2020, but to reactivate 73 percent of its procedures in such a way that they can be carried out electronically, with the aim of giving continuity to the essential functions of telecommunications and broadcasting services, in the face of the health emergency.
The unanimous agreement reached by the Plenary allows that, remotely, without additional costs and taking advantage of technological resources and the experience in teleworking that, for more than five years, the Institute has had, 126 of the 173 procedures that are in the IFT catalog can be carried out online, for the benefit of users, audiences and the industry in Mexico.
In this way, except for the exceptions of procedures and procedures indicated, the Agreement of suspension of work approved by the Plenary includes from May 1 to 30, 2020, declaring them as non-working days and in which the deadlines and terms applicable to the procedures, actions, investigations and procedures that are carried out before this Institute will not run, including those established by periods or in calendar days, in the indicated period.
In this sense, within the deadlines provided for by periods or calendar days, its computation will resume as of Sunday, May 31, 2020; while, within the deadlines provided in working days, its computation will resume from Monday, June 1, 2020.
It is important to mention that, in the event that some of the procedures or administrative activities of the Institute require the partial physical presence of public servants, this will be carried out during ordinary working hours and of course respecting the health and safety measures that are applicable and considered pertinent.
