Colombia. Karen Abudinen Abuchaibe was appointed as the new Minister of Information and Communications Technologies, ICT, after the resignation of Sylvia Cristina Constaín, who was in this portfolio since the beginning of the Government.
On the outgoing minister, President Iván Duque stressed that she took forward "the new regulatory framework for ICT. We would also like to thank him for the progress made so that our country has greater coverage in its networks. Today we can say that we have the largest contribution of royalties with the national domain registration; also thank you for the connectivity plan in the territory. And I want to tell you that we have been very happy with your service to Colombia."
Regarding the appointment of Karen Abudinen as the new Minister of ICT, the President said that she "has served as High Councilor for the Regions; he was also in charge of the Political Council. She actively participated with Minister Constaín in the processing of the ICT Law."
Connectivity, the challenge of the new Minister
Likewise, President Duque stressed that the challenge of the new Minister of ICT will be to expand connectivity throughout the national territory and deepen teleworking.
He added that Abudinen "has the challenge of working hand in hand with his colleagues in Education, for digital training; has the challenge of deepening teleworking and virtual work in the country. It must also advance on issues such as telemedicine, hand in hand with the Ministry of Health."
