Latin America. The CityTV Channel of Bogotá, Colombia, has automated its subtitles with enCaption. The station expects a 24-month return on investment, as it has reduced captioning costs by 75 percent compared to manually operated systems previously used on CityTV.
"We usually found a 10 to 15 second delay between the spoken word and its on-screen title with our previous system," said Walter Gomez Zuluaga, Citytv's Engineering and Operations Manager. "EnCaption4 has reduced this gap to just four seconds while maintaining a high degree of accuracy. In addition, the 75 percent reduction in operating costs will generate an estimated return on investment of approximately 24 months."
.
Citytv subtitles its daily news program, Citynoticias, along with other popular programs like Arriba Bogotá and Bravissimo, following a mandate that requires Colombian TV stations to broadcast subtitles on 75 percent of their shows between 6 a.m. and midnight. Citytv also interconnects enCaption with its MediaCentral (iNews) newsroom (NRCS) computer system to familiarize you with specific words you will interpret in subtitles. Using the standard MOS protocol, enCaption4 can access news scripts and summaries from any NRCS and learn correct vocabulary, spelling, names, places, and other special content that will be mentioned in local newscasts.
New releases
Mark Stewart, Marketing Manager of Enco, in conversation with TVyVideo+Radio, highlighted that along with updates to their radio and television automation solutions, they are planning to show improvements in their award-winning automatic captioning system enCaption, which allows broadcasters and content producers to quickly, easily and cost-effectively add closed or open captions to live channels and pre-recorded content.
These improvements include video delay for lip-syncing grade subtitle syncing even when transcribing live streams; advanced Spanish punctuation for context with support for full periods, commas, exclamation points, and question marks; and the ability to detect changes between multiple speakers even within a single mixed power.
Finally, Mark Stewart highlighted that his support team continues to be available 24/7 for emergencies and continues to operate at full capacity during standard working hours at this time of Covid-19, while the sales team is available remotely for meetings and custom demonstrations to complement our online demo videos.
