Mexico. Given the health situation due to Covid-19, the Plenary of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, agreed to the suspension of work, due to force majeure, from Monday, March 30 to April 17, 2020 and defined the essential functions that will remain in operation within the institution during this period.
Considering that the Agreement published by the Ministry of Health also states that continuity of operations must be guaranteed for the fulfillment of essential functions of each institution, the IFT Plenary determined the exceptional activities to the suspension of work, given that public telecommunications and broadcasting services constitute a tool to facilitate the fight against the pandemic and it is essential to ensure that they are provided under adequate conditions.
If necessary within this period of suspension of work, the Plenary may hold ordinary and extraordinary sessions at any time with the aim of resolving matters that require attention.
It is important to mention that the Federal Telecommunications Institute is not paralyzed. The teleworking system allowed that, as of March 26, more than 93% of the staff worked remotely, securely, in this modality. Teleworking will continue to be developed in the IFT during the formal suspension of work to give continuity to activities and projects related to the development of the sector.
Likewise, it will continue to operate personnel in those Units and Coordinations that perform or assist in the essential functions related to the quality and continuity in the provision of said public services. Among them are:

The Compliance Unit, with the surveillance and verification actions to resolve harmful interferences and other irregularities and disturbances that occur to the systems used for the provision of telecommunications and broadcasting services, as well as those matters that need to be addressed to ensure and guarantee continuity in the provision of telecommunications and broadcasting services, including the supervision of compliance with the obligations related to the presentation of reports of failures in the mobile service and / or reports of failures in part or in the whole of the network or preventive maintenance or repair of the fixed service, as well as reports in case of failures in the services of Digital Terrestrial Television.
