Brazil. It was approved by the Board of Directors of the National Telecommunications Agency, Anatel, the new technical transmission regulation that will unify the rules applied to all TV and AM and FM radio services. According to the entity, the change will bring profits to the broadcasting sector, which will facilitate the handling of requests for changes and the inclusion of channels in the ongoing processes at the Agency.
As for the proposal, he highlighted the fate of the so-called extended band, from 76 to 87.4 MHz, which today is occupied by television channels 5 and 6, for FM radio stations. As a result, there is an increase in FM spectrum, which will include a total of 60 channels instead of the current 33, and will serve AM radio stations awaiting the process of migrating to the FM band.
It is noteworthy that, after the publication of the new regulation, the current FM regulation will also apply to processes related to the authorization of broadcasters of the Radio Retransmission Service in the Legal Amazon (RTR).
In addition, a line already adopted by the collegiate body of the Agency is being followed in the treatment of technical matters involving conditions for the use of radio frequency bands: the regulatory aspects are defined by a Resolution of the Board of Directors, while the eminently technical aspects are consolidated in the Law of the Superintendent of Subsidies and Resources for Deadlines.
