Latin America. Samsung announced a partnership with the 8K Association (8KA) to establish a certification program, the first of its kind, designed to distinguish TVs and other 8K-compatible devices. The alliance marks another milestone for Samsung's QLED 8K, as it will be among the first TVs to be certified by the 8KA this year, with the new certification logo.
"We are proud to be one of the founding members of the 8K Association and to have our new line of QLED 8K TVs certified by the program," said Hyogun Lee, Executive Vice President of Visual Display at Samsung Electronics. "Our goal is to provide consumers with the ability to easily identify premium 8K displays from other devices when making purchasing decisions. Home entertainment and TVs are important investments for many of our consumers, and we hope the 8KA certification logo will be useful to them."
The 8KA Certification Program aims to distinguish TVs with four times more pixels than standard 4K TVs to provide clarity, contrast and color and high dynamic range (HDR) performance. Features tested include a screen resolution reaching 7680 x 4320 pixels, a maximum brightness above 600 nits, HDMI 2.1 image transmission, and a high-efficiency video codec (HVEC).
Member companies, such as Samsung Electronics, will be able to promote certified 8K TVs after they are validated by the 8KA. The 8KA also plans to increase educational programming efforts this year in various industries to promote member engagement, innovation, and content development within the 8K ecosystem.
In addition to expansion into different industries, the 8KA plans to disseminate promotional activities for the 8K industry through demonstrations, introducing the advanced technological development of 8K-compatible products, production workflow, delivery options and display devices. Programs and initiatives will show how consumers can interact with content, the 8K ecosystem and its standards.
The 8KA anticipates increased adoption of 8K content creation, distribution, and adoption at home, similar to the evolution of 4K standards adoption and consumer buying cycle in recent years. To date, various companies and organizations have joined the 8K Association, further expanding the membership, which is now composed of more than 22 companies.
