Peru. In order to make an adequate transition to the Digital Terrestrial Television signal, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, published Ministerial Resolution No. 1147-2019-MTC, draft Supreme Decree, which proposes to modify the Master Plan for the Implementation of Digital Terrestrial Television in Peru.
"The proposal has among other objectives, the modification of the term of the cessation of the analog signal for territory 1 (Lima and Callao), from the end of the year 2020 to the end of the year 2022," said the general director of Authorizations in Telecommunications, Mariella Carrasco.
The official added that the MTC initiative also includes varying the deadline for the start of digital transmission in territory 3 (Ayacucho, Chimbote, Ica, Iquitos, Juliaca, Pucallpa, Puno and Tacna).
"This decision does not change the date of cessation of analog signals throughout the national territory, which continues to be scheduled for 2028," said Mariella Carrasco.
The transition is that the signals that currently arrive in an analog way, with low quality and in an interrupted way, are renewed to a digital version with better image and sound quality.
"The proposed changes will allow citizens to be informed about the benefits of the DTT signal, to know how to use it easily, on a daily basis and benefit from this new way of watching television," said the director.
Therefore, it is important to make a greater dissemination of this information, so that citizens know about this change - which has already begun - and will not stop. It is also important to identify if the TV requires an additional tuner.
The regulatory proposal will be available to receive comments from the general public until December 20, 2019, so that the MTC includes these contributions in the final decree in favor of all Peruvians.
