Brazil. The SBTVD Forum approved including HLG and SL-HDR-1 as HDR standards for streaming content on free-to-air digital TV. The decision improves the user experience by increasing the contrast scale, volume and intensity of the color.
Both HLG and SL-HDR1 will be optional for TV manufacturers and both are backward compatible, meaning the TV will work perfectly even if it doesn't have this feature.
From this decision, the SBTVD Forum will produce the text that will be attached to the ABNT standards, thus entering the production scale of the interested manufacturers. "HDR displays have become increasingly popular in the domestic market. In a few years, a large part of the population will have access to technology through open digital television," said Leonardo Chaves, coordinator of the Brazilian Digital Terrestrial Television System (SBTVD) Forum.
The HLG and SL-HDR1 will be part of Brazil's national system to give the viewer an even more realistic experience from the free-to-air TV screen. The idea is to transmit images so close to reality that the user sits inside the programming scenario.
"It's as if the viewer opens a window. The program will have colors and contrasts very similar to those of the real world," explained the coordinator of the SBTVD Forum.
