NexTV Series discussed TV and OTT challenges in Mexico

Mexico. During the ninth edition of Nextv Series Mexico & Central America, a conference organized by Dataxis at the Marriott Reforma Hotel in Mexico City, some of the main topics addressed for discussion in different panels were the growth of the OTT market and the various forms of consumption of video content.

"We already have many OTT applications in the main devices, and now also in STBs, sticks and smart TVs. But the difference between the same apps on different devices tends to change a lot. The user experience must be unified. Applications and services must be optimized," said Jonathan Virgen, Head of OTT at Dish Mexico, in relation to how to improve the experience of users in this area. "There are many things we should learn from OTTs. The change has been difficult for the traditional cable operator. It is entering a business, consumption and different ages. You have to see the dynamism that OTTs have. In this we must evolve the cable operators, in improving the user experience, "he added.

During the "How to Personalize the TV Experience" panel, executives elaborated on how to have wider audiences. "With personalization we get to know consumer tastes, and now we can explore other advertising methods," said Oriam Corrales, Principal Engineer and Senior Architect at Blim TV. In addition, in the development of "Open TV in the OTT era", another of the panels of the conference, Ramón García, Director of Marketing and Customer Service of Blim, said that in the company they are "focused on the user, on always being with him at any time. Our value proposition is to offer TV everywhere. It's what's really going to lead us to a change and an evolution of TV," he said.

In the same vein, Emilio Aliaga, VP of Azteca Digital, said that "in a similar way, we also made a kind of TV Everywhere, because we put the four TV channels that we have on TV Azteca for free and live. We focus a lot on the user and we believe that the option to offer everything in one place and in an organized way, delivers a very rich experience for them." In addition, Armando Casas, General Director of Canal 22, announced the upcoming launch of an OTT of public media. "There is already an approach with a platform called MXplay, but we want to strengthen it, because it is still very incipient. There is a network of public television stations that would be integrated into this platform."

In addition, the first day of Nextv Series Mexico & Central America featured the panel "Mobile, video and OTT", where executives from AT&T, MOG-Technologies, Mediapro US and Telefónica Mexico highlighted the versatility of options and growth of coverage, signal distribution and application portability options on mobile phones. "The mobile will be the only means to consume content, to pay, for anything," said Xavier Martorell, General Director of Digital Services B2C & BI and Head of Movistar Play at Telefónica Mexico.
