Telepacífico will preserve its audiovisual heritage in digital

Colombia. An alliance between MinTIC, the management of the government of Valle del Cauca and the public channel Telepacífico, obtained financing for $ 3,858 million to conserve and preserve the audiovisual material of the Colombian Pacific that is at risk of being lost due to the current conditions in which it is in the channel.

In this way, Telepacífico becomes the first regional media to advance in this purpose, which will be financed with resources from the General Royalty System of the department of Valle del Cauca, after the approval of the Collegiate Body of Administration and Decision (OCAD) regional of the Pacific, this thanks to the management carried out by the governor, the channel and minTIC.

"Regional public channels have audiovisual pieces that are testimony to the history of our nation in formats that are no longer used as tapes or acetates and will process them, transforming them into a technology that allows us to consult and use them. MinTIC, in coordination with other national and territorial entities, managed $3.85 billion that will allow Telepacífico to be the first regional public media outlet to develop this project that all Colombians can enjoy," said the Minister of ICT, Sylvia Constaín.

The project will begin in the last quarter of 2019 and will seek the conservation and preservation of 10,903 audiovisual units, historical and cultural heritage of the department and the Colombian Pacific region, content that highlights the importance of Afro-descendant populations in the historical, cultural and economic development of the country.

In fact, the general framework of the project of conservation, preservation and classification of audiovisual content seeks to safeguard the historical and cultural heritage of the country that is in about 230 thousand audiovisual units, so that any citizen has easy access to this material to consult them in modern formats.

Additionally, this project will bring opportunities for the participating public channels, since it will allow them to be at the technological forefront in terms of the offer of content for their audience, which will be available on digital platforms that can be consulted at any time and place with internet access.

This is one of the actions that are part of the study funded in 2018 by MinTIC and the ANTV (in liquidation), both entities committed to the need to safeguard and highlight the importance of audiovisual material from regional public channels, given the imminent risk of loss in which they are, so they require an intervention in the short and medium term under conservation and preservation strategies within the framework of the guidelines established in the regulations.

This initiative will improve content management by having digitized and cataloged material, which will facilitate its consultation. In the last quarter of 2019, Canal Trece, Teleislas and Teleantioquia will also be part of this project.
