Peru. As a result of the policy of combating informality and illegality undertaken by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), the number of broadcasters operating outside the law in the Piura region fell from 100 to 15 in the last 5 years, that is, it decreased by more than 80%.
The sector identified informal stations in the districts of Huancabamba, Pueblo Nuevo Colán, La Arena, Sechura, Los Órganos and Máncora of this important region of the north of the country; that were intervened in order to avoid this type of activities that are carried out outside the current regulations.
During a day of training for representatives of local governments in the area, MTC specialists warned that illegality affects communications because it causes interference to other services such as aeronautics, mobile telephony, radio and television broadcasting of private services. In addition, it causes economic damage to the State because the corresponding taxes are not paid.
It should be noted that the owners of "pirate" stations are liable to a fine of more than S / 200 thousand, the seizure of the equipment and face criminal proceedings for the crime of aggravated theft of the radio spectrum. In addition, those who advertise on these stations are also prosecuted as accomplices and fined more than S/ 120 thousand.
Radio measurements
On the other hand, it was reported that the measurements made to the radio stations of the different telecommunications services, such as mobile telephony, radio and television, in the eight provinces of the region, do not exceed on average 1% of the maximum permissible limits of non-ionizing radiation.
