SBTVD Forum will have interactive demonstrations in SET

Brazil. The transition from analog to digital has impacted more than 130 million Brazilians since 2009. This was an important step for television to evolve in 10 years, which has not evolved in the last five decades. And to show that there is still a long way to go, the Brazilian Digital Terrestrial TV System (SBTVD) Forum will bring to SET Expo 2019 demonstrations of what the small screen will look like with interactivity, immersive audio and HDR features.

Already known to the consumer of public broadcasting or even cable television, these technologies will be freely available to the national population. "At the SBTVD Forum stand we will show how these characteristics behave in the open television environment," explained José Marcelo Amaral, president of the institution. The executive also claimed that "even those who do not have a smart device can enjoy these benefits," even partially, he recalled. Learn about the new features that will be implemented in the digital television system:

Interactivity: DTV Play
Developed by the SBTVD Forum, DTV Play (interactivity middleware) will soon be available on smart TVs. Today, to stream content, you need to exit open programming and enter an app's menu. The new framework will make this transition contextualized and barely perceived. In addition, this feature will also offer targeted advertisements (each user will receive their own offer of products and services on TV).

Sound: Immersive audio
Also known as 3D audio, the technology gives the viewer a much more real and engaging sound experience than what is offered today. It is as if an object is clearly perceived as it moves away, near or even around the listener. There is also the possibility of customization. In a TV dialogue, for example, you can reduce or increase the volume of the soundtrack or background music.

Colors: HDR
High-dynamic-range, also known as HDR, is a technology that primarily deals with the brightness of a stream. From this feature, contrasts and colors can be better perceived with more brightness and intensity.

Sharpness: 4K
Today, more than 70% of the Brazilian population already has access to digital television, called HD or 2K. With this, the image of the phones has sharpened much better than before. But the SBTVD Forum, which has worked with government agencies to make this benefit available to viewers, is already considering a new migration to Ultra HD, also known as 4K.
