Chile and Finland sign telco cooperation agreement

Chile. The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile, together with the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Finland, signed a cooperation agreement on connectivity and digitalization for their respective telecommunications sectors.

The document notes that both countries seek to foster the development of the areas of connectivity and digitalization, in addition to supporting the expansion of national, regional and international markets for their products, services and technologies. The initiative also recognizes the mutual interest of these countries in encouraging and supporting partnerships, investment cooperation, commercial business, research and development in the areas of connectivity and digitalization.

Along these lines, both Chile and Finland defined two areas of common interest for the implementation of this agreement: connectivity, including critical communications and digital services. In turn, the following areas of cooperation between the two countries were identified: encouraging investment and technology partnerships; accelerate trade and industrial trade; promote trade associations and; promote joint ventures between companies from Finland and Chile, promoting the exchange of standards and regulatory information, among others.

The Transport and Telecommunications portfolios of Chile and Finland pointed out that this agreement, which will have a duration of three years extendable, is given taking into account that the development of connectivity and digitalization are key elements for the economic, social and cultural development of the countries, as well as for the promotion of trade and technical exchanges between them.

The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile, Gloria Hutt, indicated that "in order for us to address the different challenges posed by the new digital era, we must learn from the experiences of other markets, who through their knowledge can contribute so that the national telecommunications sector continues to grow and consolidate its leadership in Latin America."

Finland's Minister of Transport and Communications, Anne Berner, said: "Finland has already been awarded its own 5G licence in the 3.5 GHz band and is expecting a rapid introduction of this new technology. In this way, and within the framework of the MOU signed with Chile, we are very honored to be able to work together and benefit both countries."
