Latin America. In an effort to present the best image in display technology, Samsung has chosen the footage captured with Arri Alexa cameras for its new Onyx 4K cinema LED screens. By using a set of modular LED panels to replace cinema projectors, Samsung LED cinema screens offer a completely new cinema screen format to enhance and extend the cinematic experience.
The technology displays Ultra Contrast with true blacks, high dynamic range and P3 color with supreme accuracy. For the exhibition of this advance in cinema visualization Samsung chose the productions LIQUID SUNSHINE, shot with Alexa Mini by Luo Pan and FACE TO FACE, shot by Tom Faehrmann on alexa LF cameras of recent release.
Harald Brendel, Senior Member of Arri's Imaging Science Team tells us: "The new Samsung cinema display has impressed us with its High Dynamic Range technology and remarkable image reproduction. The footage shot with the Arri Alexa LF camera is visualized with amazing effects. We are pleased that Samsung has recognized the Alexa images as of the highest quality for the presentation of its new displays."
Movies shot with alexa have been highly acclaimed. Since the camera's release, all Oscar-winning films for Best Cinematography captured with Alexa include Blade Runner 2049, The Revenant, Birdman (Or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance), Gravity, Life Of Pi and Hugo. Alexa technology has also proven to provide optimal images for a high dynamic range viewing experience.

Arri will also work with Samsung to provide technical support in prep, set and post for productions that seek to fully utilize the functionalities of the Onyx cinema screen. Samsung has already installed two displays in South Korea, one in Zurich, one in Bangkok and one in Shanghai. The first movie theater to offer this technology in the United States will be in Los Angeles.
