Industry is energized with World Cup and elections in Latam

Latin America. Beyond important events worldwide and particularly in Latin America – such as elections in Mexico, Brazil and Colombia – the broadcast industry and its customers continue with their dynamism and growth, said Nicholas Ponomariv, regional manager for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Canadian company Evertz.

"Major events, such as the World Cup Russia 2018, or elections in America, always move the industry. From six to nine months ago the purchases were already made and now we still have customers installing last minute applications, "he mentioned during NAB Show 2018.

And he considered: "Despite elections, preparations for the World Cup, there is now a wave of needs going up and down: there are customers who prefer RF products; others looking for solutions for existing HD to SD arrays; others who are managing their compression system. There are no easy or difficult years, there are always challenges to face, with economic, social or political particularities, as in the case of Venezuela or Brazil, and we will always seek the greatest advantage for the client."

Ponomariv said: "The trend of going to IP is no longer something new. Customers only consider whether they need it now or in a year or if they won't need it. The whole IP issue is related to 4K production. In the United States, there were producers who moved all their systems to solutions that use a lot of bandwidth; other customers are looking for ways to use existing infrastructure or make a hybrid option. Take advantage of their equipment, because the SD has ten years or more of life."

The executive stated that the company has particular solutions for the needs of customers: "At Evertz we believe that there is no need to replace an existing structure, we have developments with hybrid signals to add IP or SDI signals and encapsulate them and use both technologies at the same time. And if 4K streaming is required, we also have these options available."
