Verizon expands its network to Mexico and other countries

Mexico. Verizon Digital Media Services has expanded internationally for its award-winning Edgecast Content Delivery Network (CDN). The company has launched network presence points (PoPs) in Mexico and South Africa, with plans to open an additional Super PoP in France in the first quarter of 2018.

With these latest updates, the CDN now comprises more than 125 PoPs spanning 56 countries on six continents and has increased its network capacity by more than 200 percent.

"In a world that is more connected to mobile devices than ever before, there is a critical need for digital media delivery to be secure, fast and of the highest quality, especially in fast-growing, mobile-centric markets," said Kyle Okamoto, network director for digital media services at Verizon.

With a presence in Santiago de Queretaro and Puebla in Mexico, Verizon Digital Media Services expanded to the nation's capital in Mexico City in December 2017. These three cities were specifically selected with networks established in the country to ensure optimal quality with a clear path to more scale, as quality increases lead to further traffic growth.

Collectively, Verizon Digital Media Services' CDN is now directly connected to 95 percent of ISP consumers in Mexico, resulting in the No. 1 quality spot as determined by independent measurements.

In addition, in November 2017, the company launched a PoP in Johannesburg, South Africa, establishing a network presence on the continent. With APAC and Europe's submarine cable routes previously serving the region, the new PoP has created a positive decompression effect, increasing network traffic exponentially.

With 18 PoPs already installed in Europe, Verizon Digital Media Services will expand to Marseille, France in the first quarter of 2018. As the main Internet hub for the south of France, the Middle East and North Africa due to the submarine cable infrastructure that lands in the city, Marseille has been identified by customers as a critical location for quality within the region.
