Mexico. The Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, presented the new section of international indicators of the Telecommunications Information Bank (BIT), in which it will be possible to consult, analyze, explore and download the data related to the development of the sector, not only of Mexico, but of the rest of the members of the Latin American Forum of Telecommunications Regulatory Entities, Regulatel.
This new section is the product of an international collaborative effort between the member countries of Regulatel, which will be updated every six months with the expectation that in the following versions the number of indicators and disaggregations will increase, according to the availability of information from each of the countries.
Derived from this effort to compare international databases, it is observed that the Mobile Broadband (BAM) service has shown the highest growth among Regulatel member countries, going from 59 lines on average in June 2015 to 71 lines in December 2016, which is equivalent to an increase of 26.4 percent.
It also highlights that while the services of Fixed Broadband, Mobile Broadband, Restricted Television and Mobile Telephony are on the rise, fixed telephony shows an average decrease for the same countries. The BIT can be consulted at: http://bit.ift.org.mx
The presentation of this new section of international indicators of the BIT was made within the framework of the 20th Regulatel Plenary Assembly, which was held in Mexico City.
Regulatel , which in 2018 will celebrate 20 years of existence – has two thematic commissions (Internet issues and institutional strengthening of regulators) and two working groups (on indicators and on user protection and quality of service), in which the IFT took the lead in an unprecedented effort to generate knowledge by integrating the telecommunications indicators of the member countries, among which are: the penetration of Fixed Telephony, Fixed Broadband and Restricted Television, as well as the teledensity of Mobile Telephony and Mobile Broadband.
Regulatel is a body that brings together regulators of the telecommunications sector, in order to foster cooperation and coordination, and promote the growth and development of telecommunications in Latin America. It is currently made up of 20 Latin American countries, including: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, Venezuela, in addition to the European nations: Spain, Italy and Portugal.
