International. The winners of the IABM Design and Innovation Awards were announced at the reception of the IABM Awards at IBC, a trade fair held in the Netherlands. The selection of the winners was carried out by a panel of 40 independent, highly experienced industry professionals, each with specialized experience in one or more of the award categories.
The winner in the 'Audio' category was the mc²96 Large Production Console from Lawo, a German manufacturer of audio, video, control and networking technologies. The new Lawo audio mixing console, launched this year at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, has been specifically designed to provide optimal performance in video production environments through native support for all relevant IP standards: SMPTE 2110, AES67, RAVENNA and Dante.
The jury's statement on the Lawo mc²96 console was: "Finally, a console that takes into account the fact that mixing audio for television requires the ability to see and hear an incoming source before taking the audio to the air. A very exciting product that seems to be very intuitive to use."
The award was collected by Christian Struck, Senior Manager of Audio Production at Lawo, and Andreas Hilmer, Director of Marketing and Communication, expressing their thanks to the jury and their opinions on the broadcasting industry in transition: "mc²96 - Winner of the IABM Design & Innovation Award 2017! Many thanks to the judges for not only recognizing our audio heritage, but also honoring the pioneering video integration. This award goes beyond audio, it is to recognize the migration of our industry to unified infrastructures and new workflows enabled by the use of IP technology."
The mc²96 offers a wide range of innovative mix assistance systems such as AfV, Automix and AMBIT upmix, and is compatible with KICK 2.0, Lawo's automated solution for sports such as football, hockey and basketball.
