Puerto Rico. Within the framework of the XI assembly of the Latin American Information Alliance, AIL, the best journalistic works in Latin America during 2016 will be recognized, with the delivery of the Iris America Award. Dozens of reports are submitted by journalists from all channels and are rigorously evaluated to select the outstanding ones.
"The Iris America Awards have been created by the Spanish Academy of Television Sciences and Arts. The first delivery was made in 2014 and the 21 television stations of the Latin American Information Alliance participate, in three categories," said Juan Carlos Isaza, Director of the AIL.
The categories participating in this award are:
A. Award for the best story in television. This category rewards the work for the best chronicle or report on television during 2016. To the quality of the story, the jury adds the quality of the production and the image; because a good product in the air, is an amalgam of form and content.
B. Award for the best research work. This category rewards the best journalistic investigation taking into account the accuracy, the strength of the evidence, the balance and the interest that the subject aroused in the country of origin.
C. Award for the best last minute report. This category rewards the quality of immediacy; the hot covering of a fact. The jury will reward not only the way the topic is addressed, but also the tools available to the information space to feed and contextualize the news.
This year the qualifying jury will be made up of:
- Manuel Campo Vidal, President of the Academy of Sciences and Television Arts of Spain.
- Pepe Quílez, Vice President of the Academy of Sciences and Television Arts of Spain.
- Tony Cavin, Co-director of international news for CBS usa.
- Luis Salazar, Communications Advisor at the Municipality of Condes, Chile.
- Nicoletta Pispisa, producer of Special Events of the international agency ENEX.
The winners travel to Spain to do a 10-day internship for the most important television stations in Spain, including Tele 5.
This event will take place on Friday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the San Juan Puerto Rico hotel and will be broadcast privately via satellite to the Alliance stations so that participating journalists can meet the nominees and winners.
