Panasonic to support broadcast at Olympic Games

Brazil. Panasonic will provide a wide range of technological solutions and thousands of audiovisual equipment for professional use to collaborate in the realization of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Rio 2016, which will be held from August 5 in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. 

This is the twelfth time that the Japanese company has served as official Sponsor Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, in the category of Audiovisual Equipment, since its first collaboration for the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992.

Panasonic's audiovisual technology will be essential for the different stadiums, sports arenas, Press Center and the Olympic Village itself of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Both the IBC (International Broadcast Centre) and the television stations responsible for producing the official international signal of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will have 100 cameras and 100 video recorders in P2HD format, in addition to 1,300 HD video monitors, all from Panasonic.

In addition, the company will provide 72 giant LED screens totaling almost 1,900m2 of panels, the largest number in history, 41 public audio systems, 210 DLP projectors, 15 thousand televisions and dozens of video camera systems and switchers for the attending public, judges, athletes and media to follow all the details of the competitions.

For the Opening and Closing ceremonies, which will take place at the legendary Maracanã Stadium, Panasonic will provide a special shipment of equipment, with 110 video projectors of 20 thousand lumens, with which gigantic mapping projections will be presented to create the spectacular scenarios that tens of thousands will enjoy in the stadium and millions through the screens of televisions and mobile devices.   

Panasonic Corporation collaborates directly with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Organizing Committee of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) by providing the technology and audiovisual equipment necessary for the optimal realization of the opening and closing ceremonies, the enjoyment within the sports venues and television production centers.

Panasonic audiovisual systems and equipment available in the sports venues, Olympic Village, Media Center and offices of the Organizing Committee:

  • 72 giant screens with LED technology totaling 1,886m2 of panels.
  • Professional audio systems to provide information to the public of 41 sports venues
  • 15,600 TV monitors
  • 210 video projectors with DLP technology
  • 40 professional camcorders in P2HD format for recording in solid state memory.
  • 70 multi-format switchers for "live" production

Panasonic video systems available at the IBC and for the production of the official television signal:

  • 100 professional video recorders in P2HD format
  • 100 HD cameras in P2HD format
  • 1,300 HD video monitors

Panasonic special equipment for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies:

  • 110 20,000 lumens DLP video projectors, model PT-DZ21K2
  • Video switcher for "live" production, model AV-HS6000 Series
