Chile. The Annual Statistical Report on Supply and Consumption of Open Television, prepared by the National Television Council, CNTV, which provides information on the various dynamics of television programming, showed that Chileans watch television for more than 2 hours 15 minutes a day. In hours of television broadcasted increased from 51,860 in 2014 to 54,592 in 2015, this means that Chileans watched during that year, 835 hours per person per year, almost 35 days, that is, we watch more than a month of TV per year.
In general terms, the most watched programs are the news programs with 221 hours per year average per person, with an increase of 6 hours on average over 2014. Telenovelas, on the other hand, are positioned in second place with 173 hours, 12 hours more than in 2014.
With a significant increase, the miscellaneous are presented, positioning themselves in third place, growing from 129 hours to 141 hours per person, highlighting certain programs that marked high important ratings during the year, such as "Master Chef", "The Voice Chile" and "Vertigo", all broadcast by Canal 13, and "The Switch", by Mega.
"Audiences privilege the national contents of the newscasts for the identification and representation they establish with them. The same goes for telenovelas, which although there is an irruption of foreign teleseries, viewers value even more national ones because they are close and identify us with situations, forms of behavior, landscapes and our language, "said cnTV president Oscar Reyes.
In this sense, the distribution of the programmatic offer according to origin was 62.4% for national programming and for foreign programming it was 37.6%.
As for the most significant decreases with respect to some genders, it should be noted first of all, conversation programs that go from having 112 hours of average consumption per person in 2014 to 92 hours in 2015, that is, 20 hours less on average per year per person. A similar situation arises in the case of series and miniseries that go from 91 hours in 2014 to 72 hours.
On the other hand, the offer of programming on open television during 2015 was 54,592 hours (51,860 in 2014), that is, more than 2,244 days of TV. The News covered 17.2% of the total general programming offer during 2015, occupying the first place during that year, but also evidenced a slight percentage drop in relation to the previous year (18%). The same goes for the genre of series and miniseries, which happens to occupy the second place in terms of supply, presenting a decrease of 19.9% during 2014 (when it was the most offered genre) to 16.5% in 2015.
For its part, the telenovela genre presents an important growth in relation to 2014, going from 10.1% in that year to 13.2% during 2015.
CNTV Fund
During 2015, of the total programming broadcast, 528 hours corresponded to programs with a contribution from the CNTV Fund. This figure represents an increase compared to 2014 (352 hours), 176 more hours of programming from the CNTV Fund on free-to-air television.
As for the distribution of the offer during 2015, the channel with the most programming of the CNTV Fund presented in its grid, corresponds to TVN (49.7%) situation that is maintained in relation to the previous year.
The annual average per person during 2015 corresponds to 6 hours spent watching content promoted by the CNTV Fund.
