Mexico. The Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, resolved to approve the Technical Provision IFT-002-2016 "Specifications and Requirements for the Installation and Operation of Sound Broadcasting Stations in Modulated Frequency in the Band from 88 to 108 MHz".
This order establishes that when there is no spectral availability with separation at 800 kHz, the Institute may establish a separation between frequencies of at least 400 kHz for FM stations operating in the same locality, provided that its operation is guaranteed in accordance with the parameters established in the Technical Provision. The increase in spectral availability that will be achieved with this measure will benefit audiences and the sound broadcasting industry in the country.
This provision repeals IFT-002-2014 and is the product of an analysis of the technical parameters of operation in accordance with the best international practices currently implemented and in congruence with technological advances in the sector. In this sense, specifications and technical parameters of operation are included for hybrid sound broadcasting stations in FM, that is, those that have implemented the digital transmission format established in Mexico.
To strengthen this provision, a public consultation of the preliminary draft technical provision was carried out for a period of thirty working days, from October 9 to November 20, 2015, a process in which 21 participations were received. The comments received were evaluated and, where appropriate, included in the conformation of the final project.
It should be noted that the Technical provision contains the technical parameters of operation in accordance with the best international practices currently implemented and in congruence with the technological advances in the sector.
At the same meeting, it was agreed to submit for public consultation the "Preliminary Draft Guidelines for the Accreditation of Experts in the Field of Telecommunications and Broadcasting", which establishes the requirements and procedure for the accreditation of the same in order to support the homologation procedures and other activities established in the various provisions applicable in the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors.
