Latin America. Sony's new generation of CineAlta products offer enhanced features to production professionals, who will now be able to record in 4K RAW with cameras that incorporate a large format sensor. In addition, large files can be easily handled while maintaining the highest level of image quality.
New products include the upcoming RAW recorder, the AXS-R7, for the F55/F5 models, and higher-speed AXS memory cards. To these features, the latest firmware (version 8) for the F55 and PMW-F5 is added. Sony continues to support the development of the CineAlta platform by adding new features and capabilities based directly on user feedback.
New RAW Recorder
Compared to Sony's previous 4K recorders, this new recorder doubles the frame rate of 4K RAW recording, which goes from 60 FPS to 120 FPS with the F55 camera. To record at higher frame rates, the recorder captures 2K RAW images at up to 240 FPS with the F55 and F5 for 10x super slow motion playback.
With this recorder, users who capture images in 4K can benefit from cached RAW recording at 23.98p up to approximately 30 seconds in standby mode, an important capability in the production of nature documentaries, in which it is necessary to capture spontaneous scenes.
The new engraver is designed to deliver optimal performance in the field. A metal filter separates and insulates the engraver's vent from electronic components to prevent dust and water from entering. The connections of the recorder with the camera are more secure, thanks to a large upper bracket that supports four 1/4 screws with ample space between them.
AXS Memory
New features added to the CineAlta range also include new high-performance versions of Sony's AXS memory cards (with capacities of 1 TB and 512 GB), with continuous read and write speeds of 4.8 GBps, and 44 minutes at 59.94p or 22 minutes at 120 FPS. The two-slot recorder also supports current A-series AXS cards, but the new cards are designed to support the write speeds needed for 4K RAW recording at 120 FPS, for those users who require that level of performance.
PMW-F55/F5 firmware version 8
The latest firmware update (version 8) for the F55 and F5, with upgrade license installed, offers support for XAVC 4K class 480 recording at 23.98p, 24p, 25p and 29.97p. Major third-party vendors already support XAVC 4K class 480 recording for those creative professionals who require a higher-speed version of XAVC.
