Colombia. With the permanent interest of defining the relevant audiovisual services and markets that make up the convergent environment in Colombia, the Communications Regulation Commission, CRC, released the data on the consumption of audiovisual content over the Internet in the country within the framework of the Andean Fair Link Cartagena.
After participating in the panel "Clear rules of the game in the digital age", Germán Darío Arias Pimienta, Executive Director of the CRC, indicated that only 2.7% of Colombians use Internet access as the main means to watch television, while 25.2% use it jointly with other more traditional media.
Of the percentage of users who consume television combined, 76% acquire content from Youtube, while 14.3% do so from social networks and other free pages and 9.7% for demand services.
These data, which are part of the study of television habits and uses in Colombia carried out by YanHaas (which will be presented soon by the CRC), become relevant in the convergent regulatory field because they allow us to understand the way in which users access different communications services, and the infrastructure required for this.
"Thanks to the convergence of services, a more open and competitive environment has been generated in the sector, this new model implies challenges for regulatory policy," said the Executive Director of the CRC.
In view of the new regulatory scenario, the CRC has presented the study on competition between television platforms and the document "Audiovisual Markets in a Convergent Environment", analyses that facilitate the understanding of the socio-cultural impact of new forms of consumption and production models.

Through a participatory exercise aimed at knowing the needs of the convergent environment, the CRC will update the User Protection Regime.
During the second quarter of the year, the CRC will present a methodological proposal to measure the digital economy in Colombia, since in the region convergent markets are being generated with telecommunications companies that enter the television industry and / or vice versa, a trend that must be studied by regulators.
