Broadcasters ask presidential candidates for commitment

Peru. The broadcasters of Peru grouped in the Coordinator of Local Media of Peru, delivered a letter to all the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic of Peru, to sign a commitment to local and regional broadcasting throughout the country, so that the next government respects and defends the validity of radio and television companies operating at the local and regional level, allowing the plurality of the media and the diversity of information in the country.

The broadcasters of the provinces of Peru consider an express and written commitment necessary, since the current ruler, despite having promised to support them, have been mistreated and discriminated against by the State and the corresponding agencies in distributing advertising equitably among the media throughout the country.

The express commitment that broadcasters ask the next President of Peru, aims to eliminate all bureaucratic obstacles and bad administrative practices within the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), which harm the due and correct attention of all procedures and processes related to broadcasting services, facts that in the current management has been accentuated excessively.

Local broadcasters ask that the document be signed by the presidential candidates, it also urges to promote an equitable and proportional distribution of the state advertising of the central government, seeking the inclusion of radio and television stations that operate at the local and regional level, especially those stations that serve and contribute to local identity, the culture and education of citizens.

- Publicidad -

The owners of local radio and television stations are asking for a considered deal, as is done with the large national networks that operate from Lima. Provincial media are also part of the country's information, communication and mass entertainment system. They contribute significantly to the strengthening of democracy, freedom of expression and freedom of information.

The document highlights that local radio stations are small and medium-sized enterprises that contribute and contribute to the dynamics of the local and national economy.  Most radio stations (radio and television stations) are located in cities in the interior of the country, and in many cases away -for several hours of travel- from the capital, so they have greater problems in the administrative procedures and attention by the MTC, harming them in their economy, and validity of their authorization.

They add that, in the cities of the interior, the owners of the radio and television stations operate heroically. They sustain its validity and its operation in an epic way. In contrast to the large national chains that operate from Lima, they do not have the support of national state or private advertising. In many cases they are subsidized by the same owners with income from other activities outside broadcasting.
