Uruguay. Canal U is Uruguay's first identity signal. Many of its programs are original productions that show the current situation of the country, trying to discover the best of the culture.
Robert Rocha, VP of Canal U, commented on the broadcast of the channel in Paraguay through Tigo Star that can be seen on channel 603 of the grid of said cable-operator. "It is a very big challenge for a Uruguayan channel because it is the first time that a television signal that is produced in Uruguay reaches a distribution with the magnitude that Canal U has today," Rocha said. The canal currently reaches Argentina, Paraguay, Panama, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela and the United States.
Today Canal U is the screen with the largest distribution on the continent. In the words of the VP of the channel, "we become a window of our country, not only for Uruguayans in the diaspora who can see what is happening in Uruguay, but also for other people who can discover attractions that our country has, not only tourist attractions because, in some way, the channel shows an identity that runs through the social, the economic, which runs through the political, and that gives a sample of the possibilities. So, we understand that the responsibility is really very big and it is in that way, feeling with that responsibility, that every day we try to work better on the screen and in the programming of Canal U".
On the other hand, and in these times, Canal U tries to ensure that its "business model is not a rigid business model", because the habit of consumption of mass media is having a "radical change". "The number of mobile devices today, which far exceed the amount of population we have on the continent along with the improvement in the flow of communication tools, makes the individual today, as a consumer of mass media, pay more attention to his own mobile device, and even makes it a content generator," Commented Rocha.
Likewise, this creates "the challenge of interpreting this reality so that the business model is not only tied to the traditional television screen, but we have to think about different devices and at different times. We are in a time when any moment is Prime Time. Today it is the individual who takes the times he wishes. So, I think that makes us be thinking all the time about a very dynamic business model. So we must accompany these changes and challenge us too, not only as programmers but as entrepreneurs, "concluded the executive.
