Argentina. "The purchase of Nextel by Cablevisión, without the proper authorization of the AFTIC, is another attempt by the Clarín Group to mock the Argentines, our laws and our Democracy," said Martín Sabbatella, president of the Federal Authority for Audiovisual Communication Services, Afsca, in relation to the announcement of the acquisition by that business corporation of 49% of the shares of the company Nextel Argentina.
"The directors of the Clarín Group are bothered by the rule of law, they are bothered by complying with the laws and respecting the rules, because they grew up cheating and imposing their ambition over democratic institutions," said the president of the Federal Authority for Audiovisual Communication Services and stressed: "Cablevisión intends to enter Nextel with its back to Argentine legislation and institutions and in partnership with the vulture funds that control NII Holdings. Inc," he added.
The company Cablevisión of the Clarín Group publicly reported to the National Securities Commission that it acquired, for an amount of 178 million dollars, 49% of the share capital of Nextel Argentina, a subsidiary of NII Holding Inc. According to information from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, at the end of June this year, the vulture fund Aurelius became the majority shareholder of NII Holding Inc.
"Strikingly, after those business movements of the vultures that litigate against Argentina and against many countries of the world, the doors were opened for Cablevisión to acquire Nextel Argentina; which they intend to do without authorization from the national state," Sabbatella explained and pointed out: "Aurelius, like Paul Singer's Elliot vulture fund, is one of the main and toughest litigants against Argentina in the restructuring of the debt. Magnetto intends to associate with them, hidden from the institutions and laws of our country."
The Federal Authority for Information and Communications Technologies (AFTIC) reported that the transfer announced by Cablevisión does not have the proper authorization required in article 13 of Law 27,078, of Argentina Digital.
"Magnetto and his partners again want to cheat, as they do with the media law in complicity of a part of the Judiciary. This time they want to do it hand in hand and under the auspices of the vulture funds; which is not uncommon because business and financial plunder was always associated with the Clarín Group," said Sabbatella and concluded: "For some time now the State has not allowed this subjugation of business corporations, so there is no chance for a group that must shrink and divide, to expand and increase economic concentration."
