Paraguay. One of the topics of discussion within the Asunción Media Show that takes place this week in Paraguay, was piracy, one of the serious problems facing Pay TV in our region, with greater or lesser intensity depending on each country.
The National Director of Intellectual Property of Paraguay, Patricia Stanley, spoke at the event about the generalities of illicit trafficking in the country and about the losses it generates for the industry in general. He assured that, although THE DINAPI "is not infallible, we have managed to put a brake on piracy."
Stanley claimed that DINAPI is currently preparing a rehabilitation plan for "illegals or pirates," boosting stable and legal jobs. They are, on the other hand, pouring efforts into creating the National Anti-Piracy Center to beat up illegality and "follow the money" to reach the real pirates.
For his part, Sergio Piris, Head of Legal Affairs, Clandestinity and Crimes in Technologies of Cablevisión Argentina, stressed that he serves as President of the Argentine Chapter of CERTAL, where the objective of raising awareness of the effects of piracy is raised. He emphasized several of these effects: from unfair competition, the affectation of legal services, to loss of clients, tax evasion and perjury to the State and Industry.
From his experience in Cablevisión, he stated that most of the pirates that affect the industry, carry out their transactions through the Internet and social networks (Facebook, YouTube and Mercado Libre were mentioned). In this sense, he explained what is the methodology to intervene in these illegal processes on the web and what are the types of crimes existing in Argentina concerning satellite TV, theft and cloning of equipment, resale of the internet, etc.).
He affirmed that the fundamental thing to fight against illegality is the awareness and dissemination of the problem. He exemplified with an internal campaign of the company, which aims to raise awareness among its employees (#NoMasClandestinos). Finally, he highlighted the need in Argentina for a specific law on illegality and piracy in cable TV and the Internet.
