Brazil. Netflix announced that 3% will be its first original series filmed in Brazil. Production will begin filming in early 2016 and will be released exclusively on Netflix that same year. The first season will be produced by Boutique Filmes, directed by Oscar nominee César Charlone (City of God, Blindness) and will star João Miguel (Stomach, Xingu, Felizes Para Sempre?) and Bianca Comparato (Avenida Brasil, Sete Vidas, Irmã Dulce).
3% is a dramatic thriller that takes viewers into a world torn between progress and desolation. The only possibility of moving to a "better" place is through a cruel and unfair process that only 3% of the candidates manage to reach. "The series questions the dynamics of society, which imposes constant choices that we all have to deal with," says César Charlone.
"It is very exciting to partner with one of the most innovative television networks in the world. Netflix's willingness to invest in Brazilian content, local talent and a different narrative is key to our growth as an industry," said Tiago Mello, executive producer. "A few years ago, the series was created, so I'm very happy that it's Netflix who is betting on this project."
Written by Pedro Aguilera, 3% will be filmed in Ultra HD 4K and the executive producers will be César Charlone, Tiago Mello and Pedro Aguilera.
