Paraguay. The tenth edition of Asunción Media Show will be held on August 11 and 12 at the Sheraton Hotel in Asunción, Paraguay. Among several activities and talks, the conference "OTT- Advances and development in the region" was confirmed on the morning of the first day.
The conference will be attended by Emilio Martinic, Director of MULTINET, Chile, Eng. Marcelo Méndez, President of the Digital Television Consortium of the Interior of Uruguay, and a representative of Tigo, moderated by Gabriel Carballo, President of Red Multicable.
Currently, subscriptions from OTT service providers are poised to quadruple, to reach $31.6 billion in revenue in 2019. Therefore, the growth of users and connected devices and the increase in data traffic constitute an excellent opportunity for telecommunications operators. That is, OTTs start from a very favorable situation to dominate the world of new generation services.
Martinic said, in reference to his participation in the talk, that "it is important to discuss the experiences we are having in the different markets regarding the evolution of television. We are at a very early stage of this evolutionary process and, naturally, there are more questions than certainties about the future."
On the other hand, he said that there is still "much to study, understand and prove. Instances like Asunción Media Show help us move forward in this discussion. The future of TV, the keys that are pushing its development, and what we need to understand", is what his dissertation will focus on.
In turn, Méndez said that there is and will be "a growing offer of OTT services, streamings and others, but that does not necessarily ensure that they capture the total attention of the subscriber." In this sense, the engineer pointed out that "young generations are more likely to see non-linear programming" but also "there is a segment of subscribers who prefer to be provided with quality but orderly programming and always knowing what they are going to see".
Next, Méndez indicated that "what is not doubted for a moment is that, whatever the form of programming to be provided, the audiovisual quality standards already force to give most of the content in HD and it is very possible that, in the not too distant future, there is already talk of reaching 4K".
In this new fair, the participation of local cable operators and the main referents and exhibitors of the audiovisual industry, broadcasting and politics of the region is expected. The event promises to be another success in the Paraguayan market that, in addition, this year will add the participation of players from the Bolivian market and the region; while the commercial exhibition will have business tables, where numerous companies will interactively exhibit their latest products to the public.
