Argentina. The Federal Authority for Audiovisual Communication Services, Afsca, launched plans for the reorganization of the UHF band that will be occupied by the new television system.
Through the execution of the plans in question, the licensees that had assigned frequencies in this band, which was being used for encoded UHF services, and which is necessary for the development of Digital Terrestrial TV, will be relocated.
In this way, progress continues with the regularization of the digital frequency band and the implementation of the comprehensive development plan for Open Digital Terrestrial Television, arising from Presidential Decree 2456/2014, which was elaborated after complying with the different steps established by law, such as the holding of a public hearing.
Afsca also approved the National Plan for Digital Audiovisual Communication Services for Holders of Licenses and Authorizations, according to which each pre-existing analog TV licensee, from the planned localities, will be granted the corresponding digital space so that it can operate in the UHF band. It is carried out within the framework of the provisions of article 93 of the Law on Audiovisual Communication Services, which guarantees pre-existing licensees the same conditions for digital TV.
In the reorganization of the digital frequency band, the AFSCA works together with the Permanent Joint Regulatory Committee, created by Law 26,522 and composed of the CNC and the Secretariat of Communication; and the Digital Terrestrial Television Advisory Council, under the Ministry of Federal Planning, Public Investment and Services.
