ATVC warns of 4G tender

Argentina. The Association of Cable Television, ATVC, warned about the concessions of the 4G bidding process that the Argentine government is advancing, about which it assured it is "another act of concentration and attack on the national industry. During the announcement the only thing that was clear is the constant attack on the cable industry, in the mouth of Minister De Vido."

The association stressed that 3G mobile telephony has not yet had the exploitation or the appropriate development by the telephone companies, "this means that the leap to the next phase is not only out of time and space but represents a risk to free competition and the promotion of the national industry. The opening of the tender, at a time when the value of the assets remains at a very low level, promotes the insertion of foreign companies at the local level and makes it impossible for Argentina to participate in any tender abroad."

Among the benefits that according to the announcements would bring the 4G, would be the interconnection for SMEs companies in the interior. According to the ATVC, interconnection has nothing to do with this new technology and could have been implemented more than a decade ago. Had it done so, SME providers would not be paying exorbitant prices to connect to the global grid and citizens would not be harmed.

The entity also highlighted that a "legalization" of the violation of the Media Law was announced, announcing that now "you can watch Netflix on your cell phone." This qualifies it as a double sloppiness: "in the first place a public official advertises a brand of a multinational company, without a presence in the country, which does not tax. As if this were not enough, the possibility of giving video through cell phones is prohibited in the current and promoted Government Law."

He concluded that this attitude is a clear intention to continue attacking national industries and is part of the line of perks granted to the only satellite television operator, about to merge with one of the largest telephone companies in the world. From now on, the telephone companies will have a substantial advantage in being able to carry out developments of national scope, in the same way as that operator.
