Colombia. Cinecolombia, one of the largest cinema chains in the region, has selected digital film distribution technology from International Datacasting Corporation, IDC. IDC's digital cinematography partner in Latin America, Grupo Chilefilms, and cinecolor Colombia, its affiliate, managed the sale to Cinecolombia.
The installed systems were SuperFlex Pro Cinema cache servers. According to Carlos Acero, General Manager of Cinecolor Colombia: "We have full confidence that, with IDC, we will be able to provide Cinecolombia cinemas with exceptional value by offering excellent technology that is already being used by the main digital cinematography chains."
Cinecolor Colombia is part of Grupo Chilefilms, a partner of IDC, which operates extensive digital cinematography networks throughout Latin America. Chilefilms is the owner and operator of CinecolorSAT's satellite cinematic digital distribution network, which not only distributes films, trailers and advertising, but also alternative, live content. Chilefilms' live content offering includes major sporting events, which are distributed throughout Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Chile.
Currently, nearly 70% of cinemas employing electronic distribution solutions use IDC technology for satellite streaming of the latest blockbusters and live 2D and 3D events. These solutions are already in action in more than 4,000 sites, on six continents.
"IDC's proven track record as a provider of choice for content distributors worldwide really pays the ground for us in Latin America," says Alexandra Villamizar, Technical Manager of Cinecolombia.
