Latin America. Technicolor announced a global partnership with Telefónica as its strategic satellite set-top box provider to support the massive launch of this operator's high definition (HD) services campaign, starting in Latin America in Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia.
In parallel, and as part of the agreement, Technicolor will also provide support in Peru, extending these services to Telefónica's Peruvian cable customer base. Technicolor's MediaPlay high-definition cable and satellite decoders feature MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 (H.264) Wi-Fi video codecs in both standard and high definition.
These devices are ready to offer Personal Video Recording (PVR) and come with advanced video features such as aggregation of traditional linear television streams with video delivered over IP networks.
End users, now familiar with consuming content at any time and while traveling, expect no less from their main TV in the home. With this massive deployment, Telefónica is looking to take advantage of this trend and improve the consumer experience by facilitating access to broadband video and the Internet on their televisions, along with advanced services such as VOD, Internet browsing and television with time displacement, which can be accessed through an intuitive user interface.
David del Val, Global Video Product Manager at Telefónica Digital said: "Technicolor's high-definition satellite and cable platforms allow us to develop our leading position in Digital Home solutions: this enriches our consumers' home entertainment experience, who want to enjoy access to a wider range of features, applications and services through an easy-to-use and reliable product."
