Latin America. According to the latest report by NexTV Latam, Brazil and Mexico are the countries in the region that find the most illegal use of the pay-TV signal. According to the figures, piracy reaches 19.3% of the 63.43 billion total households in the region.
This represents an important growth when compared to the numbers of 2012, a year that pay television closed with 60.32 million households with the service, of which 11.85 million were pirates. The report also notes that the most widely used way to access illegal Pay-TV services is via satellite.
By country, Brazil is the first with the highest number of illegally connected, with 43.1%, followed by Mexico with 23.6%, and in third place is Argentina with 12.3%. In much lower figures are Colombia and Venezuela, each with 7%.
For its part, Peru, which is one of the countries with the lowest penetration of Pay-TV according to the number of subscribers, contributes 4%. Finally, there is Chile, which contributes 2.3%.
It should be remembered that in the latter country the government has declared a frontal war on piracy on pay television, with confiscation of pirate decoders, judicial processes and stricter rules. In Colombia, the National Television Authority, operators and judicial authorities are also working hand in hand to curb the growth of this illegal activity.
