International. With orders exceeding two billion euros for the first time in the company's 80-year history during the last fiscal year, Rohde & Schwarz slightly improved its leadership position in Europe and conquered significant profits in Asia and the United States. Its four business areas contributed to the successful results.
Orders during the last fiscal year (July 2012 to June 2013) increased by 8.7% over the previous fiscal year to EUR 2.04 billion. Revenues reached EUR 1.9 billion, an increase of 4.8%. At the end of the fiscal year, the company had 9,300 employees, up from 8,700 a year earlier.
Rohde & Schwarz relies on four main strategic pillars: test and measurement (T&M), transmission, secure communications, radio monitoring and radiolocation. T&M's activity in wireless communications made the biggest contribution to the company's performance, thanks to continued growth in the smartphone market, including LTE devices.
It also recorded good performance in the transmission business area. Although the digital transmitter market is almost saturated in many countries, the company managed to expand its leading position in the terrestrial television signal transmission market with a new family of transmitters. One of these cases is that of Colombia, where in the middle of the year it was made with the tender of the transmitters for digital television.
Through its subsidiary Rohde & Schwarz DVS, it offers products for the studio segment and added to its portfolio header extremes for audio and video. Consequently, it is becoming a provider of solutions that cover the entire value chain in transmissions, from post-production in the studio to transmission of the broadcast signal.
