Brazil. Pebble Beach Systems has won a contract to supply automation to Brazil's Globo television network, one of the largest commercial networks in the world.
Through its system, which is scheduled to go on the air in 2014, it replaces the current internal solution for the three main national channels of TV Globo: Rede HD, Rio HD and HD Fuso. A prerequisite for the broadcaster, which serves exceptionally large audiences, was that the automation of the broadcast must offer a very robust operation and have no point of failure.
To that end, the system will be configured with full Aire Protect functionality, and fully redundant regulators for Omneon and Grass Valley servers, primary and backup. The entire system is synchronized with a full backup for maximum endurance, favoring availability and ease of maintenance.
Pebble Beach Systems provides a dynamic interface tailored to TV Globo's own traffic system, along with a MAM interface. The system also includes ingesting across multiple locations, a sophisticated workflow, quality control, including Miranda switches, Harris and Grass Valley routers, Miranda graphics, and VTR Digicart.
Paulo Santos, Director of Engineering at TV Globo for the Playouts Division, confirmed "We are very impressed by the richness of the feature set of the proposed system during the proof-of-concept process. This, along with their redundancy strategies, made a very attractive solution for us."
