Honduras. A total of 14 frequencies for digital terrestrial television were put up for sale by the Honduran National Telecommunications Commission, Conatel, to expand coverage, both national and regional.
The Mexican company TV Azteca, became the only channel with national coverage that was made available. This frequency guaranteed the signal for all 18 departments of the country through 10 repeaters, for a set time of 15 years of operation.
Conatel executives stressed that the operation of the channel 44 signal in particular was done for 61.4 million lempiras (US$3.01 million), almost doubling the initial figure that had been estimated at 35.2 million lempiras (US$1.72 million).
The same situation was experienced with the delivery of regional channels. Frequency channel 45, which was acquired by Publications and News (Publynsa), was priced at 3.9 million lempiras, while the initial price was 3.2 million lempiras.
The same company acquired signal 46, for which it paid 7.4 million lempiras, having started the process from 6.7 million lempiras. Grupo G Telecomunicaciones took over channel 45 for which it paid 4.3 million lempiras.
But not all regional channels were fancied by investors. Conatel had to declare the delivery of channels 47 and 51 deserted, because there were no proposals.
