Mexico. After the declaration of constitutionality of the Telecommunications Reform approved in recent days by the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union, and the obvious promulgation by the Federal Executive, the board of directors of the Federal Telecommunications Commission, Cofetel temporarily suspended the ordinary sessions.
The commissioners unanimously made this determination until adequate coordination is achieved with the Ministry of Communications and Transportation regarding public policy and the pending regulatory agenda, as well as the parameters for an orderly transition.
It should be remembered that with the Telecommunications Reform, a project that was the flag of President Enrique Peña Nieto recently inaugurated, the Cofetel will disappear and the Federal Institute of Telecommunications will be created.
The commissioners of Cofetel expressed their interest in reaching an agreement to facilitate the transition with the new Institute, so that the procedures that are in process can be concluded efficiently and expeditiously.
Once this coordination has been achieved, the Plenary of the Commission will resume its sessions normally.
