Mexico. The movie theater company Cinépolis presented Klic, an online movie rental service that can be accessed from computers and mobile devices, initially focused on the Mexican market.
According to the information released by Alejandro Ramírez, director of Cinépolis, the goal is that through this service they can achieve half a million customers within a maximum period of three years and according to the results in Mexico, their next destination would be Brazil.
The bet is that big, especially if you take into account that in Mexico there are 12 million households with broadband and 41 million Internet users, and that 81% of Internet users watch some type of video online and of that group 27% watch movies.
To guarantee access to content, Cinépolis reached strategic agreements with the different film distributors, taking advantage of its name and recognition in the Mexican industry. The monthly subscription fee will be US$7.
The executive added that this service continues with the concept of entertainment offered by the company, but this time at home, unlike movie theaters that are focused on entertainment outside the home. This difference means that there is no competition between its two services.
Thus, Cinépolis becomes the first cinema chain to offer online movie rental service. Alejandro Ramirez revealed that there is interest in his service from other companies located in Australia and Canada.
