Colombia. One of the purposes of the government and the National Television Authority is to achieve 100% coverage in the television service, since 8% of the country, especially in areas far from urban capitals, still does not have the service.
Therefore, the ANTV is implementing a plan to arrive with satellite television. To that end, the Minister of ICT, Diego Molano Vega, assured local media that they received a segment of 12 megahertz of the so-called Andean satellite, which will be used to bring the television signal to the most remote places.
In addition, in order to fulfill this purpose, Minister Diego Molano is seeking alliances with the country's private television channels for the provision of this service, while the open signal channels, RCN and Caracol, are already included within the grid that will be offered.
For the provision of this service, receiving antennas similar to those of pay satellite television services will be required. The discussion since the project was proposed is whether the families seeking to benefit have the economic capacity to acquire the equipment.
Therefore, from the beginning there was talk of providing a service subsidized by the State, from the cost of operation as well as equipment. But so far it has not been defined how much the subsidy would be and the Minister of ICT did not refer to the issue.
