International. About a quarter (27%) of TVs sent for distribution during the first quarter of 2012 were equipped with Internet connectivity, according to a report by the company DisplaySearch.
This type of televisions can in their basic connection version access services such as Hulu in the United States, or Netflix and Youtube in Latin America, as well as other offers of this type that are increasingly common.
Paul Gray, director of television research at NPD DisplaySearch, said: " Smart TV is driven primarily by content. When there are interesting things to watch, the Internet becomes a very important source of entertainment," he explained.
The researcher added that "we are seeing a second stage of evolution in which video moves from the PC screen to the TV screen. Consumers have found a lot of things to see on the internet, so the next logical step is connectivity."
