Latin America. For three years, the North American Internet video management company Limelight Networks began its expansion in Latin America with the opening of its first headquarters in Mexico. The good reception of the company and its solutions has opened a new panorama in the region.
Abel Honigsblum, sales director Latin America at Limelight Networks, told TV Y VIDEO that the company's plans for Latin America are the opening of new POPs (points for video management). In February they installed one in Brazil and by June another will begin operating in Medellin, Colombia. In addition, they plan to open two others in Mexico and Brazil during the second half.
"Our idea is to change the way in which the large Latin American media use the Internet for the distribution of content, providing technology that does not exist in the region, since we have a technology that allows us to accelerate the web. This is happening in each of the countries where we are working with the largest media, such as Mexico with Televisa and Universal, as well as in Brazil with Globo and MTV local, among others, "he said.
They arrived in Colombia from Internexa, a company that contacted them last year because it was interested in having a CDN (content delivery network) for Colombia and Brazil, an idea that was in line with limelight Networks' plans.
Abel Honigsblum added that with the point that they will soon open in Colombia they will also be able to serve the market of neighboring countries such as Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. But among his plans is also to reach Argentina and Chile directly.
"Having a local CDN will allow users in these countries to have minimal latency in content on the web, storage directly in Brazil and Colombia and not in the United States, and the most important thing is the acceleration part that will allow the end user to have a better experience," he concluded.
