International. The Hispanic community in the United States will have a new television option to be aware of what is happening in their countries of origin, but in English. This is the new bet that arises from an agreement reached between Univision and ABC News.
The negotiation process, which took place this week to give life to the new channel that will air in 2013, had been going on for more than a year. The idea is that it is not a channel only of news content, it will also feature lifestyle programs.
One of the motivations that the two channels had to partner in this project are the growth expectations of the Hispanic community in the United States, which today occupies about 15% of the population and which is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
After making the announcement, now the two producers will concentrate on defining content, the name of the new channel, seeking agreements with cable operators to transmit the signal and the content for web and mobile devices that they hope to have available before the channel's signal begins, during the second half of this year.
This is not the only option of new channels that Hispanics will have in the United States, because it should be remembered that last January the Colombian RCN and FOX announced a channel for Hispanics in that country, but spoken in Spanish, which should air in the second half of this year.
