Colombia. With the appointment of three of the five members that will make it up, the new National Television Agency starts, the regulatory body of television in Colombia that will replace, after 21 years of operation, the National Television Commission.
For the board of directors of the new control entity, three members are elected, which make up the majority that allows the beginning of work of the new television control entity. One of them is the government representative, Jaime Andrés Estrada (photo)," current director of the National Television Commission, also representing the government.
In addition, there is the Minister of ICT, Diego Molano and the representative of the academy, Alfredo Sabbagh. The universities delegated for the election of the other two members, the representative of the governors and civil society, are expected to appoint them soon.
One of the main challenges that the new Agency will have is to begin the process of assigning the third free-to-air television channel that the Colombian government wants to deliver. This process must start from scratch after the Council of State overthrew the one that had been going on three years ago.
Another sensitive issue that must be taken up is the audit that is currently carried out on the companies that provide subscription television, in which there are apparently some irregularities about the number of subscribers, which directly affects the payment they make to the government in terms of taxes.
