International. During the third quarter of the year, between July and September, Netflix reported an increase in turnover and profits, although the number of subscribers decreased by 800,000, falling to 23.8 million in the United States.
The CEO of the Internet movie rental company, Reed Hastings (pictured), indicated that the drop in the number of subscribers was due to the new strategy of separating streaming content from DVD and the price increase in services.
But despite the decline in users, revenue reached $822 million, beating analysts' expectations, and profits reached $62 million, up 63% from the same period last year.
Reed Hastings announced that the company's expectations for the fourth quarter are not so positive and that they could even reach red numbers during the first half of next year, due to the expenses of its expansion plan that this year reached more than 40 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This announcement, added to the increase in the price of the services since July, caused the cost of Netflix's share on the New York Stock Exchange to accumulate a fall of 30% in the last three months.
During the presentation of the results of the third quarter, the executive also announced the arrival in the United Kingdom from this week and for next year in Ireland.
